Headteacher at St Thomas of Canterbury School in Brentwood, Caroline L’Estrange writes about a visit that the Bishop of Richborough made to her school in June 2013.
‘When I last wrote I promised you an update on the visit by Bishop Norman. We had a great day – enjoyed by everyone. Perhaps you saw the article in the Brentwood Gazette, following Bishop Norman’s visit and saw how impressed he was with the children's questions.
‘Bishop Norman freely shared with the children about what it means to be a Bishop, all that his role entails, and all about his vestments and what they each represent and signify. The Bishop visited all the classes, taking a huge range of questions! The children's questions were very probing and insightful, with them asking him how he talks to God, what his favourite vestment was, how you become a Bishop, and many more.
‘One of the favourite responses was when Bishop Norman was asked ‘What is it like being a Bishop’? He replied that ‘It was like eating a chocolate biscuit every day’. The children were left in no doubt that he clearly loves his vocation. It was a privilege to be able to welcome Bishop Norman to our school.’
